Drostanolone Propionate
Drostanolone Propionate is more commonly referred to as Masteron although this is a brand of the drug. A synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) that has to be administered through injection only, it was initially used to treat breast cancer having first hit the market in the 1970s. Although it has never been banned, medical advancement in other drugs means it’s use for fighting breast cancer has largely died out.
Although it’s use in medical terms has largely died out, it is popular with bodybuilders and athletes for both performance enhancement and muscle mass and density increase while lowering levels of body fat. While there are many positives of this steroid it is not the strongest steroid available to athletes and as such, isn’t the most widely used, despite it being relatively easily accessible.
Cycle
For the best effects of drostanolone propionate to be truly appreciated it is most commonly used during cutting cycles with bodybuilders and athletes and is even more obvious on those that are extremely lean to begin with. It is also commonly used at the end of a cycle as it is one of the most effective drugs at removing the last, lingering bits of fat that are often the most difficult for athletes to rid themselves of.
Side Effects
As it is such a mild steroid compared to many on the market and black market, drostanolone propionate has fewer known side effects than other steroids that are commonly used. Many of the side effects that are reported can be attributed to the hormone changing properties of drostanolone propionate and the fact that it is an anti-estrogen drug.
The effects of drostanolone propionate are a large part of the reason that it is no longer commonly used in treating breast cancer as it can have a virilization effect on women, including body hair growth, deepening of the vocal chords and clitoral enlargement. Although this can, in part, be put down to the relatively high doses that are necessary in treatment, these side effects can still occur when taking smaller doses – it is down to individual response. In men it can also accelerate hair loss, especially in those with male pattern baldness. Other side effects that have been reported are acne, anger and a change in the cholesterol that the body produces.
Dosage
The dosage of drostanolone propionate has historically been low compared to other steroids and this has heightened it’s image as a weak drug. The dosage has been low as it is often more difficult to come across and when it is found, is so expensive that taking high dosages would be costly, despite the relatively few negative effects. Over recent years the price has dramatically decreased and this could account for the increase in usage, however dosages seem to remain relatively low. This could be as a result of people being unwilling to venture into the unknown or the conform of the steroids that they are already taking.
As it has a somewhat short half life of only 2 days it tends to be used through injection and this needs to be done on a very regular basis. For those that are aiming for the best results from using drostanolone propionate it is advised at least every other day, though preferably on a daily basis. The positive effects of using this drug might not be as strong as others but with a high enough dosage, it is possible to feel the benefits without as many negative effects as other AAS’s.
Conclusion
Although drostanolone propionate has not been banned by governments, it does not mean that it doesn’t come without dangers. As with all steroids there are risks to taking it, especially for prolonged use, however this is a relatively mild steroid and the negative side effects are less serious than many other drugs that are commonly used. Use of this drug has significantly dropped in medical terms however this has not affected how well it has been received in the bodybuilder and athletic circles. Sporting associations have banned this drug due to the positive effects that are used, but for recreational use there is no limitations.
